Yopchick named Chief Communications Officer

Oct. 7, 2022 – Dan Yopchick will join the Village as the Chief Communications Officer effective Monday, Oct. 10, Village Manager Kevin Jackson announced today.

Yopchick has worked in communications for more than 15 years, most recently serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications with the University of Illinois Chicago.

“I was highly impressed with Dan’s skill as a storyteller,” Jackson said. “As I evaluated the needs of our community, it became clear that telling the story of Oak Park will be critical as we move forward with tackling the many complex issues of importance in our community and our country. I am excited to see Dan use his strategic communications experience to ensure our Village is engaged with all members of our community.”

In addition to his most recent role at UIC, Yopchick previously worked for Northwestern University and held roles with the Chicago White Sox and the Bakersfield Blitz.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Village of Oak Park as the Chief Communications Officer,” Yopchick said. “Oak Park is a vibrant community that is doing interesting and innovative things. I look forward to collaborating closely with such a talented team and to building upon Oak Park’s tradition of excellence by creatively telling the many stories of the Village.”

In welcoming Yopchick, Village Manager Jackson also recognized the contributions of Erik Jacobsen, who has served as in the Interim Communications Director since May 2022. Jacobsen, the Village’s Communications and Social Media Manager, stepped into the interim role after the retirement of David Powers, who served as the Communications Director for more than 22 years.

“Erik has done an outstanding job at not only holding the ship steady in communications, but continuing the push forward new initiatives, like the Granicus expansion and website redesign,” Jackson said. “I am grateful for his willingness to step up, and I look forward to his continued leadership within the Village.”
