In an effort to simplify and streamline the Village’s parking rules and regulations, the Village Board approved the Oak Park Parking Pilot Program in 2019. The parking pilot program was rigorously tested in one of the Village’s most in-demand parking areas — Harlem Avenue east to Oak Park Avenue and South Boulevard south to Harrison Street, including portions of the adjacent business districts.
In the fall of 2021, the Village issued a survey to evaluate public opinion on the policies tested in the pilot parking program area. The Village’s Transportation Commission reviewed the results of this survey and, in collaboration with staff, advanced a series of parking program recommendations for the Village Board to consider. Following an extensive public outreach process, including the survey and various public meetings of the Transportation Commission in 2022, the Village Board held a special study session regarding parking matters on February 27, 2023. Subsequently, on March 20, 2023, the Village Board adopted Ordinance 23-23, codifying the various changes recommended by the Transportation Commission as a result of the parking pilot program. Both meetings of the Village Board were streamed live and archived online for on demand viewing at https://oak-park.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx as well as cablecast on VOP-TV, which is available to Comcast subscribers on channel 6 and ATT Uverse subscribers on channel 99.
Changes in the following six categories will be tested in the parking pilot program area:
