In-person Village Board meetings set to resume

Oct. 6, 2022 – The Oak Park Village Board of Trustees will soon return to in-person meetings at Village Hall for the first time in more than two years.

Plans are in place for the Village Board to convene for a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10 in the Council Chamber at Village Hall. As was the case prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Village Board meetings will be open to the public, but now a hybrid option will also be available via Zoom to facilitate public comments, remote speaker presentations and any other participant who needs to attend a meeting remotely.

Village Board meetings will also continue to be streamed live at www.oak-park.us/boardtv and cablecast on VOP-TV, which is available to Comcast subscribers on channel 6 and ATT Uverse subscribers on channel 99.

An emergency meeting held the morning of March 13, 2020 marks the last time the Village Board convened at Village Hall.

Village Board and citizen commission meetings have been held remotely since as allowed under Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s COVID-19 disaster proclamation, with the one exception being the swearing-in ceremony for new elected officials held May 3, 2021 at the Public Works Center.

Safety protocols

The Village will institute several COVID-19 safety protocols for in-person meetings, including a mask requirement for members of the public per current Village Hall policy.

Visitors will be encouraged to space apart in the audience during meetings, and in the event of a large crowd, the Village will allow for overflow seating in Room 101 where meetings can be viewed on a screen.

The Village has also installed portable air filters in the Council Chamber and Room 101, and doors will be kept open to maximize ventilation.

Providing public comment

The process for submitting public comment during a Village Board meeting will remain unchanged. Individuals may request to speak by emailing publiccomment@oak-park.us or calling 708.358.5660 no later than 5 p.m. prior to the start of a meeting.

Speakers will have the option of appearing in person, addressing the Village Board via Zoom or having their comment read by the Village Clerk.

Boards and commissions

In addition to in-person Village Board meetings resuming this month, plans are in place for the Village’s 20 citizen boards, commissions and committees to resume in-person meetings by January 2023.

Throughout the pandemic, citizen commission meetings held on Zoom have been recorded and posted online at www.oak-park.us/citizencommissions.

The Village’s ability to video record in-person commission meetings is currently limited to meetings held in the Council Chamber and Room 101, but planning is underway to ensure as many in-person commission meetings as possible are recorded and archived online as citizen boards and commissions return to Village Hall.

For more information about in-person meetings, email village@oak-park.us or call 708.358.5770.

Individuals interested in keeping up with local municipal policymaking can visit www.oak-park.us/boardtv, where meeting agendas are posted and recordings of past meetings are archived for on-demand viewing. The online meetings database also offers the option to search the meetings archive using key words to find a particular topic of interest.
