Update: Situation resolved safely with no injuries
Oct. 14, 2022 - A standoff that lasted more than 18 hours on the 1100 block of N. Harlem Ave. was resolved with no injuries at around 5:20 a.m. this morning when the subject surrendered and was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The Oak Park Police Department thanks the Cook County Sheriff's Office and its team of specialists for helping to safely resolve the situation. The River Forest Police Department also provided support throughout the incident.
Officers initially responded shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday to reports of an individual armed and barricaded alone in his apartment. The area was closed to traffic shortly thereafter as officials negotiated with the individual in distress.
Harlem Avenue re-opened to normal traffic flow this morning as officers processed the scene of the incident.

Oct. 13, 2022 – Oak Park Police are responding to an incident involving an individual in distress on the 1100 block of N. Harlem Ave.
Officers initially responded shortly after 11 a.m. to reports of an individual armed and barricaded alone in his apartment. As of 6 p.m., the Oak Park Police Department and the Cook County Sherriff’s Office remain on the scene working to resolve the situation.
Officers on the scene continue to communicate with anyone in the immediate area who may be impacted. Traffic is currently being diverted and the public is asked to avoid the area.
