Murder charges filed in connection to Oak Park shooting

July 15, 2022 – Two Chicago residents have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Jailyn Logan-Bledsoe.

Kenneth Elliott, 21, of the 1700 block of N. Linder Ave., and his 17-year-old sister Adrianna Vanzant of the 900 block of N. Monticello Ave. were taken into custody Thursday in Chicago. Though Vanzant is a minor, she is being charged as an adult given the nature of the crime.

Police say Elliott and Vanzant were armed with handguns when they approached Logan-Bledsoe from behind and opened fire at around 1:50 a.m. on June 22 in a gas station parking lot at 100 Chicago Ave.

Vanzant fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle while Elliot fled in a separate vehicle. The victim’s vehicle was later recovered in the 200 block of N. Kilbourn Ave. in Chicago.

“While nothing can undo the tragic events that played out the morning of June 22, apprehending the individuals responsible for this senseless murder will hopefully provide some closure for Ms. Logan-Bledsoe’s family, friends and the entire community,” Interim Police Chief Shatonya Johnson said. “I’d like to thank all of the law enforcement agencies throughout the region that assisted with this investigation, including a special thanks to members of the U.S. Marshals Taskforce and the West Suburban Major Crime Taskforce.”

Elliott appeared Friday at the Fourth District Circuit Court in Maywood and is being held on $850,000 bond. Vanzant appeared in bond court via Zoom on Friday and is being held on $1.5 million bond.

The next court date for both Elliott and Vanzant is scheduled for Aug. 5.

Any criminal charges are merely allegations and all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
