This Labor Day, drive safe and sober or get pulled over

Aug. 25, 2022 – As residents plan their end-of-summer celebrations to mark the Labor Day weekend, the Oak Park Police Department is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state to stop unbuckled and impaired driving.

“We’ll be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the roads with the goal of ensuring our community’s residents and visitors make it home safely once the parties end,” said Interim Police Chief Shatonya Johnson. “If you’ll be celebrating, we urge you to plan ahead for a sober ride.”

The high-visibility Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign runs now through the early-morning hours of Sept. 6. During this period, law enforcement will be stepping up efforts focused on impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers.

Oak Park Police are partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.

This Labor Day weekend remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
