July 4th parade to showcase Oak Park's diversity

June 24, 2024 – The many dimensions of Oak Park will be on display when the annual July 4th parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 from Longfellow Park at Ridgeland Avenue and Adams Street.

Parade participants march north on Ridgeland Avenue to Augusta Street and disperse at Whittier School. The route will offer many viewing opportunities along the way.

More than 50 groups typically participate in the parade, including social and special interest groups, community groups, athletic teams, politicians, businesses, service organizations, children’s groups, animal lovers with their pets and musical groups.

Some participants bring floats and drive vintage cars. Others play music, carry banners, ride decorated bicycles and skate. Most dress up in all manner of red, white and blue to commemorate the nation’s birthday and to celebrate Oak Park’s rich diversity.

An appearance by the Jesse White Tumblers is expected to be among the highlights of this year’s parade.

The deadline to register to participate in the parade is June 28. Click here to register.

The Oak Park Police Department reminds residents that road closures near the parade route start as early as 8:30 a.m. and may remain in place as late as 12:30 p.m. Please observe all no parking signs and give yourself extra time to maneuver around the parade route.

Fireworks are not planned for July 4th in Oak Park this year. In years past planning and funding for fireworks displays in Oak Park was provided for by private businesses or private donations, but no such entity stepped forward this year.
