April 22, 2020 – A 30-year-old Oak Park woman was shot in the leg during an attempted armed robbery at about 4:30 p.m., yesterday (April 21) in the 100 block of North Lombard Avenue.
She was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood with what was believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
The victim told Police she was walking north on Lombard Avenue and had just passed under the viaduct when a man approached her, displayed a silver-colored handgun and demanded her possessions. During what she described as a brief struggle, the handgun discharged and a bullet struck her in the leg.
The offender was last seen fleeing south on Lombard Avenue, possibly entering an older model sedan on South Boulevard driven by an unknown subject. The vehicle was last seen traveling east on South Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
The suspect was described as a man in his in his late teens or early 20’s, with a thin build. He was wearing a black or blue hooded sweatshirt, light blue or grey skinny jeans and sneakers.

The incident has Police reminding residents to not let their guard down during these unusual times because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
While nearly 90 percent of all crime in Oak Park is against property, armed robberies and vehicle hijackings do sometimes occur here. The best defense, Oak Park Police say, is to try to avoid becoming a victim.
