Sept. 9, 2020 – As counties across Illinois struggle to confirm early voting sites in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, Oak Park remains a committed host at Village Hall where strict guidelines will require face coverings and proper social distancing.
Village Hall, 123 Madison St., also will be one of 50 sites in Cook County where voters will be able to drop off mail-in ballots rather than using the U.S. Postal Service.
Suburban Cook County voters can cast early ballots from Oct. 19 through Nov. 2. Dates will include weekends and some early evenings, but hours will vary by day – click here for the details.
Special social distancing guidelines will be in place and access to Village Hall will be limited to separate municipal staff from early voters to reduce the risks of spreading the highly contagious virus.
Village Hall has been providing in-person services since June 29, but with limited hours, access and capacity. Further controls may be implemented during early voting if needed to protect voters, municipal workers and customers, officials say.
Officials also are reminding voters that Village Hall will not be a polling place on Election Day, Nov. 3. Residents who don’t vote early must cast ballots at their designated polling place on Election Day – click here to find your polling place.
In the meantime, any registered voter in suburban Cook County can avoid the polls on Nov. 3 and still do their civic duty by requesting a mail ballot application online. Cook County will begin distributed mail ballots on Sept. 24. Ballots may be returned either by mail or placed in one of the 50 official drop boxes to be set up across the suburbs.
Village Hall will be the site of one of the secure dropboxes from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2. The ballot box will accessible in the Village Hall courtyard only during early voting hours because of strict security measures required by the county to ensure ballot security.
The ballot box will be emptied nightly by county employees, ballots will be timestamped and emails sent to voters to let them know their ballot was received as long as they provided an email when they registered for their mail ballot.

The last day to request a mail ballot is Oct. 29 and ballots must be post marked by Nov. 3 to be valid. Election officials recommend voters apply by Oct. 15, to allow sufficient time to get a ballot out and allow voters to send it back in.
