June 22, 2023 - The Oak Park Police Department is stepping up traffic enforcement around the July 4th holiday, focusing on impaired and unbuckled drivers.
The safety campaign is underway now and will run through July 5 to include the summer weekends leading up to Independence Day.
“It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use marijuana or other drugs,” said Police Chief Shatonya Johnson. “Our officers will be working around the clock to keep impaired drivers off the road and enforce all other traffic laws. We’re doing it to save lives.”
The Oak Park Police will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Drive High Get a DUI and Click It or Ticket campaigns are made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The crackdown runs with a media campaign reminding motorists that impaired driving has “Life or Death” consequences.
