Oak Park Health Department to take vaccination opportunities to the community

Aug. 4, 2021 – The Oak Park Department of Public Health will be in downtown Oak Park with its new mobile response van from 6 to 9 p.m., on Thurs., Aug. 12, offering free COVID-19 vaccinations and rapid testing to attendees at the popular weekly Thursday Night Out festival.

Anyone 12 and older is eligible to be vaccinated. The Health Department is urging individuals to sign up for an appointment time of their choice via the state registration portal to speed up processing at the vaccination point – click here to register for the downtown event.

Second doses will be scheduled automatically via the state registration portal.

In the meantime, the Health Department’s mobile response van also will be at Oak Park and River Forest High School from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., on Mon., Aug. 9 to make COVID-19 vaccinations easy and convenient for students who are 12 and older – click here to register for the high school event.

Students ages 12 through 17 will need a parent’s consent to receive the vaccine – click here to download the consent form. Children under 14 also must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when they get vaccinated.

Oak Parkers are reminded that COVID-19 vaccines are widely available to everyone age 12 and older through pharmacies, medical care providers and other resources. Visit www.oak-park.us/vaccine for links to a wide range of vaccination options.

Getting more people vaccinated is the key to slowing the spread of COVID-19, according to public health officials. All of the approved vaccines have proven effective against COVID-19 mutations, including the more contagious Delta variant.

The Oak Park Department of Public Health reported today that about 30,300 residents had received at least one dose of a two-dose vaccine, which is about 58 percent of all residents and only a slight increase over the previous week.

About 29,500 are fully vaccinated, according to state data, which is only slightly more than two-thirds of the estimated eligible population.
