Technology to make stickers obsolete

With the implementation of new unified parking technology, the days of removing and replacing vehicle and parking permit stickers on windows and windshields will be over.

Licenses began going virtual beginning in mid-May, and all parking permits and passes — including day, night, 24-hour and medical passes — eventually will be tied to a license plate number. Parking enforcement officers will then use mobile readers to scan license plates while driving by at up to 15 miles per hour. The new system will be phased in for passes and permits as 2019 renewal dates occur.

By eliminating stickers, the Village will save on the costs of production and postage to mail stickers, as well as support environmental sustainability. But the change also will save time for residents who will be able to purchase permits, reserve passes, pay parking meters and renew vehicle licenses from any smartphone or mobile device through a new Oak Park parking app that will be available later this year.
