Taco Bell drops Madison Street plans

Aug. 4, 2017 – Bell American Group, LLC has officially withdrawn its request for a special use permit and zoning allowances to build a Taco Bell with drive-through service on Madison Street by Lyman Avenue (500 – 508 S. Lyman Ave.).

Withdrawal of the application means the Zoning Board of Appeal’s recommendation against the requests will not be on the Village Board regular meeting agenda for Mon., Aug. 7.

The withdrawal was communicated in an email to the Village Zoning Administrator shortly before noon, Thurs., Aug. 3.

Although no reason was cited for the withdrawal in the email, the Zoning Board of Appeals had voted unanimously last month against the company’s requests. ZBA recommendations go to the Village Board for consideration and a final vote.

Bell American had sought a special-use permit for a drive-through window at the proposed fast-food restaurant, as required by the local zoning ordinance.

The applicant also had asked to locate the restaurant parking lot to the west of the structure, rather than to the south as specified in the Madison Street zoning district plan. Relief on setback codes, which would allow the restaurant to take up more of the lot, also were sought.
